Cookie and Local Storage Policy

In plain language
- Malath sets no cookies of its own today, and loads no analytics or advertising trackers.
- What the platform actually uses is browser storage, to keep your reading position and preferences on your own device.
- Because there is no non-essential storage, the platform shows no cookie consent banner — showing one would be misleading.
This summary is for convenience only. The detailed text below is what governs.
1. What the platform actually uses
We audited the platform's source to establish what it genuinely writes to your browser. It sets no cookies of its own. It uses two browser storage mechanisms:
- Local storage under the key malath:reader-state:v1 — your page number, lamp and candle state, font size, Comfortable Reading Mode, and audio levels.
- Session storage under the key malath:intro-seen:v1 — remembering that you dismissed the title card, for this browsing session only.
Both stay on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.
2. Categories
Strictly necessary storage: the session-storage entry for the title card, needed for the interface to behave as expected.
Reader preferences and reading progress: the local-storage entry above. It is not strictly necessary, but it does not track you and never leaves your device; deleting it only loses your preferences.
Analytics: none. No measurement or statistics tool is loaded on the platform.
Marketing and advertising: none. No advertising or retargeting tracker is loaded.
Payment-related storage: none today. Once payments are enabled, the payment provider may set storage needed to complete a transaction and prevent fraud; that will be described here before it is switched on.
3. Why there is no consent banner
An "Accept all" banner belongs on a site that genuinely sets non-essential cookies or tools that need your consent.
This platform uses none, so displaying a consent banner would imply data collection that does not happen. That is why there isn't one.
If an analytics or marketing tool is ever added, this page will be updated and your consent will be requested before it runs — not afterwards.
4. Third-party storage
The platform embeds no video players, maps or social widgets that set their own storage.
Hosting and content delivery providers may use technical mechanisms necessary to serve files and protect the service.
5. Controlling this from your browser
You can clear site data or block local storage at any time from your browser settings.
The effect is limited: the platform keeps working, but your saved reading position and preferences are lost and the title card reappears.
The platform handles storage being unavailable or corrupted without breaking: it falls back to its default values.
